Privacy Policy
Last updated August 23, 2026
This policy explains how Nomtier stores, uses, shares, and retains information when you use the Nomtier website, web app, iOS app, and related services.
Information we store
Account information. We store your name, email address, handle, password hash, verification status, authentication-provider identifiers, and session information. We never store your plain-text password.
Content and activity. We store restaurant journals, notes, ratings, lists, tags, reactions, friend relationships, profile and journal photos, place corrections, invite activity, notifications, and feedback you submit.
Location. Nomtier asks for device location only when you choose a feature such as Use my location. Your coordinates are sent to Nomtier to return nearby results. Search analytics retain a lower-resolution regional cell rather than the precise coordinate.
Search and usage data. We record searches, result counts, feature interactions, request routes, response status, latency, and related diagnostics. These records may be linked to your account when you are signed in.
Device and network data. We process IP addresses, browser or app information, device push tokens, app version, operating system, and technical logs needed to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
Communications. We keep invite requests, support messages, problem reports, and other messages you send to Nomtier.
How we use information
- Provide accounts, search, maps, journals, lists, social features, photos, and notifications.
- Authenticate users, prevent abuse, protect accounts, and investigate security incidents.
- Moderate public contributions and respond to reports or support requests.
- Measure reliability, diagnose failures, and understand how product features are used.
- Send transactional messages such as invitations, verification links, and service notices.
- Comply with law and enforce Nomtier's terms.
When information is shared
With other users. Your profile and social activity are shown according to the feature you use. Content you tag friends in can be visible to those friends. Content you explicitly mark public can be visible more broadly and may be moderated.
With service providers. Nomtier uses Cloudflare for website delivery, proxying, and image caching; Vultr for compute, databases, and object storage; Resend for transactional email; Apple for maps, Sign in with Apple, TestFlight, and push delivery; and Google or Firebase for Google sign-in and push delivery. These providers process information as needed to provide their services to Nomtier. We require providers acting for Nomtier to protect personal information consistently with applicable agreements and law.
For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or respond to valid legal process.
As part of a business change. Information may transfer as part of a financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale, subject to this policy and applicable law.
Nomtier does not sell personal information and does not use personal information for third-party targeted advertising.
Retention and deletion
Account information and user content are generally retained while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Notifications are normally removed after 30 days. HTTP and request-span diagnostics are normally removed after 30 days, search and product analytics after 180 days, and host diagnostics after 14 days.
Some records may be retained longer when necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, dispute resolution, or reliable backups. If backups are enabled, backup copies are isolated from normal use and deleted according to the configured backup retention schedule.
You can permanently delete your account from Settings in the Nomtier app. Before deletion, you can download a CSV of your place rankings and Journal entries. To request access, correction, or other privacy help, email privacy@nomtier.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Your choices
- Decline or revoke location, camera, photo-library, and notification permissions in device settings.
- Choose whether a journal entry or list is private or public where that control is offered.
- Block users and remove friendships from Nomtier's social controls.

Children
Nomtier is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly store personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact privacy@nomtier.com so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.
Security and international processing
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards intended to protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Nomtier is operated in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other places where our providers operate.
